Jackson Lee Kirk, native of Chesapeake, West Virginia, died Monday, February 27, 2012 in his home in Prince George County, Virginia. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hood Kirk, his parents, Oley and Pearl Whittaker Kirk, and his nephew Kevin Kirk.
Jack is survived by two daughters: Susan L. Kirk and Elizabeth Van Bruggen (John); one granddaughter: Margaret Van Bruggen; four brothers and sisters: Bob Kirk (Sandy), Janie Travis (Max), Bill Kirk (Julie), and Kate Rothwell (John); one brother-in-law, Frank Hood (Marilyn); nine nieces and nephews: Greg Kirk, Teresa Hess, Dee Ayers, Traz Travis, Lynn Rothwell, John Rothwell, Paul Hood, Lisa Ballast, and Amie Hood; one cousin, Betty Jo Kelley (Willard); first cousin, Trish Rogers(Leonard), and innumerable loving friends.
Jack served in the Air Force for four years doing radio maintenance on B-52's. He retired from AT&T with 25+ years as a communications craftsman. He was a true artisan: painter, woodcarver, and photographer among others. He enjoyed Civil War re-enactment and relic hunting. He was a lover of the outdoors including fishing, canoeing, sailing, and target shooting. He was a devoted father. We are grateful to God for Jack's 74 years of life. We will miss his zeal for life and laughter that were contagious.
The visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, March 2nd at J.T. Morriss & Son funeral home: 103 South Adams Street, Petersburg, VA 23803. The memorial service will be at 10 AM on Saturday, March 3rd: St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 225 Claremont Street, Petersburg, VA. Interrment will be at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, Petersburg, VA 23805.
