In memory of Sgt. First Class James E. Ballou who faded away as an old soldier of the U.S. Army March 15, 2021. Born November 30, 1929, Sgt. Ballou was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Maria H. Ballou; parents, father, Bester Walter Ballou, and mother, Elizabeth May Ballou of Penns Grove, New Jersey. He leaves 2 children, 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Sgt. Ballou served for 20 years, from Dec. 12 1946 to Oct. 25 1966 in the U.S. Army. His duties included serving in the U.S. Constabulary in Austria from 1947 to 1950. He volunteered for operation Vitals in the Berlin Airlift in 1948. In 1961 he deployed to Berlin to deter Russian aggression at the Berlin Wall. He later had various duties around the world. He retired in 1966. His medals included the WWII Victory Medal, Berlin Air Lift Medal, Occupation Medal Germany, Good Conduct Medal 3 Award Clusters, Defense Service Medal Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, and Certificate of Appreciation.
