James Brockwell,Sr.

James Thomas “Brock” Brockwell, Sr., 93 of Petersburg, Virginia died Saturday, January 31, 2004. He was born February 6, 1910 in Prince George, Virginia. He was the son of the late Rufus and Frances Hall Brockwell. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Schenck Brockwell; a son, James T. Brockwell, Jr.; four sisters, Mary Lou Hanks, Catherine Hall, Emily Brockwell, Marie Warren; four brothers, Lawrence Brockwell, Mouton Brockwell, Briggs Brockwell, and Charles Brockwell. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Mary Frances Howerton Brockwell; one son, Benjamin F. Brockwell and family of Matoaca; one step-son, Robert L. Moore and family of Prince George; daughter in law, Nancy E. Brockwell of Chester; three grandsons, Bruce T. Brockwell and family of Chester, Barry S. Brockwell and family of Chesterfield, and Jason M. Brockwell of Alexandria; two step grandsons, Robert L. Moore, Jr. and family and Howard B. Moore and family all of Dinwiddie; including several great-grandsons, along with several nieces and nephews. Brock worked in Fire and Safety at Hercules Incorporated in Hopewell for 26 years. After retiring in 1972, he and his wife enjoyed many years together traveling to the Florida Keys and other parts of the country, Mexico and England. Brock also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved to have a good time and share his life experiences. He was a life long member of Enon Baptist Church in Chester, and a 62 year member of Powhatan Starke Lodge # 124 A.F. & A.M. A Memorial Service with Masonic Rites will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, February 5, 2004, at Enon Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Echols officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Enon Baptist Church, Sanctuary Fund, 13607 North Enon Church Road, Chester , Virginia 23836.
