James Gilbert Brown, 74, of Matoaca, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Born in Harrisonburg, VA, he was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Eunice Whetzel Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Baker and a sister, Diane Pence. Mr. Brown was a graduate of James Madison University. He was a U. S. Army veteran and a retired school teacher for Chesterfield County Public Schools. In addition, he was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Petersburg and American Legion Post 136 in Ettrick. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Peggy Ann Brown; son, Gil Brown and wife, Kim of Bergton, VA; grandchildren, Jessica Brown and Justin Brown both of Bergton, and Dylan Baker of Matoaca; brothers, Larry Brown and Richard Brown both of Broadway, VA, and Woodrow Brown, Jr. of Bergton; sister, Susan Brown of Bergton. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Petersburg. A second memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Bergton, VA.
