James Thomas “Tommy” Carden, 71, of Hopewell, died, Saturday, April 24, 2004, in his home after an extensive battle with cancer. He was born in Belfrey, KY and was a resident of this area most of his life. He was the son of the late Emmit and Mae Carden. He was preceded in death by his sister Juanita Wintzel. He is retired from PreCon, Inc. in October of last year after 26 years of service. Tommy is survived by his wife, Myrtle M. Carden; one daughter; Donna Williams, her husband, Don and their grandson Steven, of Colonial Heights, Va. two sons Jared Carden and his wife Patricia ,of Chester,Va. Ricky Carden and his wife, Carol, of Hopewell, Va., three brothers, Jackie Carden of Burrowsville, Va. Leo Carden and Harry Carden of Belfry, one sister, Dorothy Allen of Hopewell, Va. and four grandsons, Mathew, Hunter, Dylan and Ryan Carden The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday, April 27th at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A service will be held at J. T. Morriss on Wednesday at 11:00 AM followed by a graveside service at the Merchant Hope Memorial Gardens in Prince George, Va. with the Rev. Willie S. Cromer, Jr. of First Baptist Church officiating.
