James “Conway” Cheely, age 81, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021. Conway was born June 12, 1939 in Petersburg, VA, a son of the late James Robert Cheely and Mary Evelyn Clarke Cheely. He was predeceased by his wife, Karen Lynnette Cheely and son, Jeffrey Patrick Cheely.
Conway grew up in Petersburg, VA with his brother, Albert Cheely. Conway attended Virginia Tech and graduated with a Masters in Accounting. Conway settled in Hartsville, SC to work as a Computer Systems Analyst for Sonoco Products Company. He later retired to Camden, SC.
Conway is survived by his daughter, Lynnette M. Cheely-Conto, and granddaughter, Sydney Rae Conto, son-in-law, Kevin A. Conto, and daughter-in-law, Beatrice Cheely.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 from 6:00-7:00pm at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. The graveside service will be held on May 1, 2021 at 11:00am at Blanford Cemetery in Petersburg, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christian Community Ministries, PO Box 1712, Camden, SC 29021, or the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County, PO Box 217 Camden, SC 29021.
