James W. Covington, 86, of Hopewell, VA passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010. Jimmy was born in Nottoway County, VA and had been a long time resident of Hopewell, VA. He was the son of the late Aubrey Luther and Mary Hill Davie Covington . Jimmy was the youngest of eight children and in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret C. Werdein, Elizabeth Legat Bailey, Grace Atkins Hylton, Jesse C. Vaughan, Mary Jane Bogese, his brothers, William Covington and Thomas Covington. He was a long time member of West End Presbyterian Church where he served many years in the church choir. Jimmy retired from the maintenance department of Hopewell High School where he was well known for his dedication to the faculty and school. For years Jimmy was the #1 Fan of the Hopewell High School Blue Devils Football team and could be seen at most games cheering the â??Devilsâ? on and lending them support. He was truly one of their most staunch supporters. Jimmy truly loved his Lord Jesus, football games and his faithful dog, Lassie. He will be greatly missed in Hopewell. Jimmy is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Reed and Rev. Wayne Good officiating. Interment will be in Bermuda Memorial Park, Chesterfield County, VA.
