James Karl Cox

James Karl Cox passed away peacefully in Chesterfield, Virginia on Thursday, August 19, 2021. We are blessed to have had our beloved “Jimmy” for 90 years. He was a man of love, honor, and friendship. He loved telling people he was born in the “little blue” house on Fifth Street in Greenville, NC. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1950 and played football and attended East Carolina University. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a dental technician and was the owner of Utility Distributors for 46 years and Chester Antiques Center later in life for 15 years. He loved his family, ECU Pirates, politics, antiques, and his McDonald’s coffee group.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 70 years, Eleanor Norris Cox; his parents, Dalmar Lindon Cox, Evelyn Dillon Cox, and Edna Williams Cox of Greenville, NC; and his little brother, Dalmar Lindon “Tommy” Cox, Jr. He is survived by his beloved sister, Ann Cox Davis of Greenville, NC; a son, James K. “Jim” Cox, Jr. (Jodi) of Chester, VA; three daughters, Nancy Cox Coffman (Bill) of Stockbridge, GA, Anne “Amy” Cox Petersen (Patrick) of San Juan Capistrano, CA, Evelyn “Lynne” Cox Thomas (Hunter) of Henrico, VA; seven grandchildren, Matt Payne of Snellville, GA, Andy Cox (Rebecca) of Prince George, VA, Craig Cox (Chelsea) of Norfolk VA, Jake Thomas and Dillon Thomas of Henrico, VA, Catherine Petersen and Vance Petersen of San Juan Capistrano, CA; four great-grandchildren, Chloe Cox, Landon Cox, and Brooke Cox of Prince George, VA and Scarlett Payne of Snellville, GA. A private Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held in late August. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
