James Marston Crumpler, Jr., of Chester, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024, age 82. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Bernice Crumpler (née Porter) and James Marston Crumpler, Sr. ("Skeeter"); and his sister, Shirley Mae Degler (née Barksdale).
James graduated from Highland Springs High School in 1960, and went to work at Philip Morris shortly thereafter. After thirty-five years of service James retired in 1995 to enjoy other pursuits. Throughout the 80s, 90s, and 00s, James was an active adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America and a member of Scouting's Order of the Arrow. He was awarded the Silver Beaver medal, for distinguished service as an adult Scout leader. He was also an avid bird-watcher and Civil War relic hunter.
James is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Ann Crumpler; and two sons, Marston W. Crumpler, of Denver, CO, and Spriggan Radfae, of Amelia, VA.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., with interment immediately after, at Bermuda Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the National Audobon Society or the Civil War Trust/American Battlefield Trust.
