It is with profound sadness that the family of James E. Davis announce his passing at his home in Prince George County, VA, on July 14,2024. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Dora A. Davis, and their children, Jamie & Daniel Hunter, Tim & Dreama Davis, and Susanne Davis. James will also be remembered as a proud and caring grandfather, by David & Michelle Bowers, Nathan Davis, and Jessica Woodford, and by his great-grandchildren, Natalee Wells, Jacob Wells, Lacy Davis, Olivia Davis, and Zoe Bowers.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Lloyd Thomas & Clara Mae Davis of Kentucky, and by his youngest grandson, Philip "PJ" Davis of Prince George, as well as other beloved family members.
James will be best remembered for his fierce love of God and his family above all things. This love led to him spending several years serving as the Sunday School Superintendent at 7th Ave Church of God in Hopewell, VA. In addition to his service to the church he was also a dedicated and hardworking man. He was deployed with the US Army for 2 years before relocating with Dora to make a home and raise their family in Virginia. From there he went on to be a pipe fitter for Allied Chemical in Chester, VA, from which he retired after more than 30 years of service. James was also a great cook, an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan, and enjoyed being outside. Some of his favorite outdoor activities included going on walks, playing sports, tending his garden, mowing the grass, and in his later years sitting outside and soaking up the sunshine in his favorite chair. "Papaw" as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
To honor his wishes there will be no public services, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crater Community Hospice at 3916 Crater Rd, Petersburg, VA 23805. The family thanks you in advance for your condolences.
