James “Jim” Douglas DeLong, Sr., age 61 of Matoaca, VA, passed away after a courageous battle with a rare cancer on Monday, July 1, 2019. A native of Pennsylvania, he was preceded in death by his loving father, James E. DeLong, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Phyllis Smith DeLong; a son, James D. DeLong, Jr.; a daughter, Rachel DeLong Bradner and her husband, Jason and step-son, Conner; his loving mother, Lillian DeLong of Pennsylvania; two step-brothers, Russell Clarke and Richard Clarke, Sr., as well as a host of family and friends not listed. Jim was a professional tractor trailer driver for most of his employed life with BOC/LINDE, LANDSTAR/RANGER, DISTECH/KENAN, and RUAN TRANSPORTATION to mention a few, where he earned several awards, including but not limited to a three million miles accident free/safe driving award during his career. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Park.
