James Donald “Red” Eades, 86, of Hopewell, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021. He was born in 1935 in Bedford County in 1935 to the late Carl Richard Eades and Gertrude Belle Kingery Eades. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shannon Leigh Hughes.
Red graduated from Stonewall Jackson, Jr. High School. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. He was employed with Allied Chemical as a Foreman, retiring after many years. His greatest passion in life was his family whom he loved dearly.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Peggy Wirt Eades; children, Bonnie Martin (Skip), Connie Meloy (Dave), Mike Eades (Missy), Richard Eades (Pamela); grandchildren, Nicole Martin, Chad Hughes, Alyssa Talbert, Brandon Hughes, Josh Martin, Richard Ian Eades, James Meloy, Michaela Eades, Jesse Eades, and Logan Eades; step-grandchildren, Ryan Meloy and Christopher Meloy; great-grandchildren, Carson Talbert, Reed Talbert, and Theodore James Irvin.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service until 4:00 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date in Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, VA. Condolences may be registered at
