James Wilson "Jim" Enochs, Jr., 95, a lifetime resident of Hopewell and Prince George, VA, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024. Born in Hopewell, VA, on May 26, 1928, he was the son of the late James Wilson Enochs, Sr. and Margaret Aderholt Enochs; and was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Lillian Whitner Enochs. Mr. Enochs was a graduate of both Hopewell High School and the Virginia Military Institute where he received his Civil Engineering Degree. Following his graduation from VMI, he went on to study at the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army Air Corps as a 1st Lieutenant with the Aviation Engineers in Korea from 1950 until 1951. Jim had worked in the family business for 63 years and was the President of J.W. Enochs, Inc. for 57 of those years. Not only did he serve his country, but he also served his community. He had served on the Hopewell City Council for 8 years, with two of those years as Mayor. Jim had previously served on several boards to include the Petersburg and Hopewell Gas Company, Pioneer Federal Savings Bank, Hopewell Area Board of SunTrust Bank, and the Board of Visitors at Virginia Military Institute. He was a member and former chairman of the State Registration Board for Contractors and was also a member of the Virginia State Ports Authority, and the Appomattox Basin Industrial Development Corporation where he was a charter member and the second President. In 1961 he was selected as "Young Man of the Year" by the Virginia JAYCEE's and was an honorary member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He loved his church, St. John's Episcopal in Hopewell, and was a former Vestryman there. Jim was involved with Who's Who in Finance and Industry, U.S. and was a charter member and director of Jordan Point Country Club. Mr. Enochs is survived by his four children, Dr. Margaret Jarvis (Larry), James Wilson Enochs III (Alison), Ashley Enochs (Dann), and Charles Whitner Enochs (Sara); and six grandchildren, Bailey (Nick), Whit (Keana), Charlie Mac, Ben, James, and Ava. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at St. John's Episcopal Church, Hopewell, VA, with Father Bill Taylor, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Appomattox Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T.
