James Wesley Goff

James Wesley Goff, 86, of Hopewell, formerly of Clifton Forge, died April 19, 2018. He was predeceased by his father, Gilbert Goff; mother, Velma Jenkins; brothers, Cecil and Kenneth; sisters, Maxine and Doris; his wife of 56 years, Betty Joyce Bryant; and a son, Douglas W. Goff. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Slade (Louis); son, Timothy Goff (Lori); grandchildren, Joyce Waddell, Stephen Berry (Denise), Mitchell Goff (Amy), Jonathan Fremin, Jason Goff (Karly), Adam Goff and Joey Goff; as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a few great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his cherished spouse of the last 8 years, Betty Jo Payne Bryant. He served in the US Army (Korea) from 1949 through 1951. He worked 39 years for Stone Container before retiring in 1993. He joined the Hopewell Emergency Crew in 1969 and remained active for the next 29 years, 14 as a crew member and 15 as a board member. In keeping with his wishes, there will be only a private ceremony. He will be buried in Appomattox Cemetery alongside Betty Joyce Bryant and Douglas Goff.
