James Calvin Hartley, 77, of Dinwiddie, passed away Monday, October 26, 2009. Born in Raleigh County, WVA, he was the son of the late James A. and Myrtle Moon Hartley. Mr. Hartley served in the U. S. Air Force, worked at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company, and retired from VDOT after working as a toll attendant. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Purdie; brother, Lloyd Hartley; and sister, Martha Cullins. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jean W. Hartley; children, Kenneth R. Purdie and wife, Linda of Disputanta, Ann McNew and boyfriend, Allen of Dinwiddie, and Ronnie Purdie and wife, Becky of Dinwiddie; grandchildren, Michael McNew, Roy Purdie, Jr., Amy Bordeaux, Wayne Purdie, Amy Purdie, Kenny Purdie, and D. J. Purdie; sister, Cornelia Eblin; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 30th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Ivan Perkinson officiating. Entombment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
