James C. â??Popâ? Howard, 86, of Dinwiddie County, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at his home surrounded by his devoted fiancé and loving family. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late John C. and Ruth Wilson Howard. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Betty H. Farley. Mr. Howard served in the U. S. Army during WWII earning a Purple Heart. He later worked in civil service at Fort Lee as head mechanic until his retirement after 33 years of service. James is survived by his brother, Raymond Harward of Colonial Heights; two nieces, Brenda Beasley also of Colonial Heights and Sherry Halstead of Dinwiddie. Also surviving is his loving fiancé, Frances â??Janieâ? Reames and her children, Carol Nelson, Debbie Fullhart, Glenn Reames, Wayne Reames and their families. Mr. Howardâ??s favorite hobbies were working with model trains, hunting, working with his dogs, and gardening. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Virginia and their caretakers, Joyce Lynch and Linda Smith; also Crater Community Hospice and their caretakers, Carolyn Turek, RN and Tracie Ruffin, CHPNA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, May 7, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Southlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Lewis, Pastor of Second Baptist Church, officiating. Condolences may be registered at
