James Edward Keeton, 68, of Colonial Heights, VA, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. He was the son of the late MSgt Tascle Eugene Keeton, U.S. Army, retired and Glendora Elizabeth Dean Keeton; and was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Zeb and Missie Dean; his paternal grandparents, James and Ellen Keeton; and his sister, Carolyn Jean Keeton Cole. Mr. Keeton graduated from Petersburg High School and then went on to receive his Master's Degree from VCU. He retired from the Defense Commissary Agency at Fort Lee after 30 years of dedicated service, and was a long time member of Swift Creek Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. Jimmy, a beloved family man, found great joy in his yearly beach vacation with Corey, Josh, and Cara, where memories were made that will last a lifetime. He cherished spending time with his family and siblings, during their frequent cookouts, birthday celebrations, and holiday parties filled with laughter and love. Jimmy was also a true music enthusiast and enjoyed dancing, being an active member of Richmond Shag Group. Back in the day, you could often find him with his Shagging friends at Ironworks, dancing to the rhythm of life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Keeton is survived by his two sons, Corey N. Keeton and Joshua K. Cardinell and their mother, Debbie Keeton; one granddaughter, Cara R. Keeton; three siblings, Anne K. Johnson (Tommy), of Colonial Heights, M. Debra Barrett, of Raleigh, NC, and Linda K. Hathaway, of S. Chesterfield; and his nieces and nephews, Genia Williams (Mark), Julie Albelo (Danny), Jason Barrett (Dava), Kevin Barrett (Darien), Jennifer Jones (Trevor), Travis Hathaway (Jessica), and Stephanie Whitmore (Garrett). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Swift Creek Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
