James Edward Layne

James Edward Layne, Jr., of Hopewell, VA passed away on Saturday December 19, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents James E. Layne, Sr., and Janie Blankenship Layne; as well as two siblings; Wilbur Layne, and Gladys Dudley.
James was a retired police officer for the City of Hopewell’ retiring after 39 years of service. He was an avid hunter and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirly Layne; daughter, Cheryl Johnson; two sons, Edward Layne (Cathy) and Bruce Layne (Juli); ten grandchildren, Laura Drumheller (Brian), Christopher Laird, Kelli Harmon, Dale Sparks, Jennifer Faria (Tyler), Tiffany Layne, Scott Layne, Juliana Layne, Jordon Layne, Abigail Layne; five great-grandchildren, Allyson Worley, Dylan Harmon, Lisa Worley, Hayden Sparks, and Grayson Faria; one great-great-grandchild, Jase Worley; and one sister, Virginia Inge; as well as his beloved fur baby, “Pretty Girl”. A graveside service will take place at 11:30 am on Wednesday December 23, 2020 at Southlawn Memorial Park.
