James Wilbur Mayton

James Wilbur Mayton, of Chesterfield, VA, passed peacefully on 29 June 2024. James was born and raised in McKenney, VA. He was the son of the late Bernard Wilkinson and Dorothy Mayes Mayton. James was a loving husband and father, and devoted countless hours to his church and Redemption Ministries where he was a true friend. He loved the Lord, his family, and hard work. James was born 13 December 1941 in McKenney, VA, and was the oldest of four children. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Ellen Johnson Mayton; his sister, Linda Marie Mayton; and his daughter, Deborah Elaine Mayton Bowens. James is survived by his son, Dwayne Edwin; and daughter-in-law, Julie Sterling Mayton, of Charlotte, NC; his stepson, Joseph Dallas Jenkins, of Virginia Beach, VA; and stepdaughter, Leigh Jenkins, of El Paso, TX. James is also survived by his two brothers; Bernard Wayne and wife, Connie Turner Mayton, of Hopewell, VA, and Darryl Edwin and wife, Dawn Dignon Mayton, of Raleigh, NC. James had several nieces and a nephew, Melissa Mayton Rhyne and husband, Robert, of Campbell, CA, Jessica Mayton Williams and husband, Wade, of Dublin, OH, Jennifer Mayton, of Raleigh, NC, Kristen Renee Winking and husband, Neil, of Raleigh, NC, and Darryl Edwin Mayton, Jr., of Ullin, IL; and great nephews and nieces, Robert Aaron Rhyne and Adam Daniel Rhyne, of Campbell CA, Amelia Claire and Carter James Williams, of Dublin, OH, Jennica Mayton, of Raleigh, NC, and Nolan Winking, of Raleigh, NC. James leaves behind three grandchildren, Cody Kirkland, Courtney Sanchez, and Caleb Volcsko; as well as four great-grandchildren, Brooks, Bayla, Blake, and Chayles.

The family is being served by the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
