James Lloyd Miller, 76, of McKenney, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Opal Jarrell Miller; daughter, Stacey Karnes; and two brothers, Tom and Bill Miller. James was recently a recipient of the 50 year membership pin for the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Danville and Amelia. He dedicated 31 years to law enforcement in the state of Virginia, serving as a State Trooper, Sheriff of Halifax County, Captain of the Extradition Unit with Corrections and retired as Assistant Chief of Investigations for the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. He was also an avid farmer and outdoorsman. He is survived by his significant other, Carolyn Faye Garnett; two sons, Jim L. Miller, II and wife, Kyla, and Jamie Eanes and wife, Barbara; eight grandchildren; three brothers; and two sisters. The family will receive friends at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia Courthouse, VA at 3:00 P.M.
