James Robert Salmons 88, of Disputanta, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 20, 2014. Born in Kentucky, he was the son of the late Bennett Salmons and Daisy Lockwood Mills. He was also preceded in death by first wife, Polly Pauline; and daughter, Elsie Sacra. James was a faithful member of Concord United Baptist Church of Kentucky, retired after 40 years with Norfolk Southern Railroad, and was a proud Mason of 62 years with the Masonic Lodge, Warfield, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife, Marian Tomko Salmons; children, Bennett Sammons (Kathy), Audrey Spivey (Joe), Libby Martin (Marshall), and Paula Carr (Larry); 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Wayne Salmons, Fannie Davis, Conolee Williams, and Elizabeth Adkins; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service with Masonic Rites will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Newville Baptist Church, Sussex, VA. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
