James Wiley Severt, 73, of Church Road, went to be with the Lord Monday, October 30, 2017. He was born November 27, 1943 in Maben, West Virginia. He was the son of the late, James Lee and Ethel Mae Severt. James graduated from Mullens High School in Mullens, WV; he served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. James is survived by his wife of 51 years, Myra Helvey Severt; two sons, Michael Shane and Jesse William Severt; daughters-in-law, Debbie and Tammy; three grandchildren, Bailee Elama, Jackson Wyatt and Caleb James; siblings include the late Jack Severt and the late Patricia Kade; sisters, Janet Parker, Brenda Pugh and Cynthia Cassidy; brother-in-law, Frank Pugh and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Severt was retired from Chesterfield County School Board where he was employed as a certified electrician. He was best know by most of his friends as “Coonman” he was an avid hunter, loved the outdoors and took pride in raising and training coon dogs and rabbit beagles; he loved working with children and coached “Little League Baseball” for 14 years. He was a long standing member of Gill Grove Baptist Church. He will be missed by family and friends whose lives were touched by his loving spirit. A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 3, 2017 at Gill Grove Baptist Church, 10726 River Road, Chesterfield, VA 23838. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
