James "Sonny" Westfall

James Joseph â??Sonnyâ? Westfall, 80, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2011. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-three years, Faye McDonald Westfall; a brother, Stanley Westfall and wife Alice; numerous cousins; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amelia Volhein Blaha and James Westfall; and a sister, Mary Frances Lewallen. He was loved by all who knew him. He was retired after forty years as a lab technician at Hercules. He was a longtime member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Westfall was also a U.S. Army veteran, who served proudly in the Korean War. He was a member of the local VFW, and the Hopewell Masonic Lodge #289. Mr. Westfall was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Hopewell chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jeff Butler officiating. Interment will follow the service at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens in Prince George, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Woodlawn Presbyterian Church General Fund c/o 1201 Blackstone Avenue, Hopewell, VA 23860.
