James Eldred Stanfield

James Eldred Stanfield, 86, of Church Road, VA, died Thursday, May 18, 2017. Born in Reidsville, NC, he was the son of the late Bedford Eldred and Mary Lucinda Dix Stanfield. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Reginald A. Stanfield and Larry A. Stanfield. A U.S. Army veteran, Jimmie served during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He retired from DSCR in 1996 after 35 years of dedicated service. During his career, he received numerous service awards. He was a lifelong member and active participant in Trinity United Methodist Church. In addition to his church, Jimmie was active in several community organizations and clubs. He was a longtime member of Wilson-Hebron-Ford Ruritan Club, serving in numerous offices on both the club and district level, including Appomattox District Governor. In 1998, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Senior Citizen Award, an honor bestowed upon him by all of the Ruritan Clubs of Dinwiddie County. Jimmie was a 42 year member and Past Master of Dinwiddie Masonic Lodge No. 136 A.F. & A.M., faithfully serving as Lodge Secretary for many consecutive terms. He was also a member of the Crater Antique Car Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley Mitchell Stanfield; children, Carol Rene` Stanfield, Robin Stanfield Nunnally (Wyatt), Kimberly Stanfield Ratliff (Bob), and Lisa Stanfield McNair (Eddie); grandchildren, Michelle Nunnally Horton (Jacob), Kara Nunnally, Aaron Forbes, and Krista Ratliff; brother, Donald T. Stanfield; sister, Ginger S. Pfister (Bob), sisters-in-law, Jean M. Stanfield and Iris R. Mitchell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4814 Courthouse Road, Church Road, VA 23833, with the Rev. James O’Quinn officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites and Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S.
