James Early Tatum

February 14, 1921 — April 17, 2015

James “Early” Tatum, 94, of Dinwiddie County, died Friday, April 17, 2015 at his residence. A native of Dinwiddie County, he was the son of the late Henry M. and Jennie Lufsey Tatum, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Lottie Newcomb Tatum, three brothers, George W. “Buster” Tatum, John Henry “Coddie” Tatum, and Gordon Lee “Crack” Tatum, and two sisters, Helen T. Wade and Mary T. Hawkins. Mr. Tatum was a proud veteran of WWII, a member of Rowanta Methodist Church, and was a retired supervisor for the Virginia Department of Transportation. He is survived by one sister, Grace T. Newcomb, one special niece, Edith T. Thomas both of Dinwiddie, and devoted friends, Cathy and Lewis “Bubba” Tucker. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with the Reverend Gene C. Tatum officiating. Interment will follow at Rowanta Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
