Spc. 4 U. S. Army (Ret) James Asher Thompson, 63, died Thursday, January 19, 2006 in John Randolph Medical Center. He was born in Lumberton, N.C. and was a resident of Hopewell for the past 30 years. Mr. Thompson served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam era and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Odis Thompson, his wife, Cathryn Wright Thompson and his brother, Nash Hercules Thompson. Surviving are his mother, Rebecca Prevatte Thompson of Hopewell, a sister, Nancy Carolyn Thompson of Hopewell, three brothers, Cecil Devon Thompson, Odis Dwight Thompson and wife, Elaine, all of Prince George and Richard Edward Thompson and wife, Brenda of Hopewell, four nieces and three nephews. A private service will be held in the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Troy Kaichen officiating. Interment will be private.
