James Newell Williamson, 94 of Petersburg, Virginia, died March 14, 2007. He was the son of the late Edward Bland Williamson and Lucretia Worsham Williamson. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mildred Gill Williamson and two sons, James Newel Williamson, Jr. and his wife, Melanie Moore Williamson and Raymond Gill Williamson and his wife Helen Williamson; five grandchildren, Raymond G. Williamson, Jr.. Elizabeth Williamson Compton, John W. Williamson, James N. Williamson III and Christopher M. Williamson, and five great grandchildren. Mr. Williamson was the president of the Petersburg Box and Lumber Co. Born in Stony Creek, Virginia, Mr. Williamson was active in civic and professional organizations. He was a former director of the Southside Virginia Home Builders, and a member of the Board of Governors of the Petersburg German, as well as the City Planning Commission of Petersburg. Mr. Williamson also served on the Board of Directors of both the former Bank of Virginia and the Country Club of Petersburg, where he also acted as Treasurer. He was a member of Christ and Grace Episcopal Church. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2007 at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Virginia.
