James Clyde Williamson, Sr., 97, formerly of Wilmington Avenue, died Sunday, March 7, 2004 in John Randolph Nursing Home. He was born in Little River, SC and had been a resident of this area since 1924. Mr. Williamson was a retired operator from Allied Signal Corporation, a driver for Burgess Cab Co., and a self employed taxi driver for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse James and Mary Emma Cartrette Williamson, his wife, Sophie Pito Williamson, a son, Vincent J. Williamson and a granddaughter, Karen T. Garcia. Mr. Williamson is survived by three daughters, Mildred W. Burnham of Hopewell, Louise W. Tiller of Richmond, Mary Ann W. Cheek of Prince George, one son, James C. “Wimpy” Williamson, Jr. of Chester, 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and one sister, Eva Mae Sarvis of Loris, SC. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 9, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:00PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at 11:00AM in West Hopewell Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Lindsey, pastor officiating.
