James Wharton Winfield

James Wharton "Shaker" Winfield (80), of Carson, Virginia, passed away on June 1, 2023, peacefully at home.

Shaker was well known in the community; he was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 882 in Petersburg. He was also a former member of the Carson Hunt Club and the Carson Ruritan Club. He was a man that had many talents, to include being a master electrician, a farmer for many years, and having the heart of a saint willing to do anything for anyone at any time. Shaker was a volunteer firefighter with Carson Volunteer Fire department for many years. During his free time, Shaker enjoyed fishing on the Chick with his best friends, Danny Riddle and Allen Knotts. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation in 2010. After retirement he stayed busy opening a restaurant in remembrance of his late wife Brenda, and working at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 882.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Brenda Mae Winfield; three brothers, Mack Winfield, Wilbur "Billy" Wright Winfield, Gregg Winfield; and one sister, Diane Poole. He is survived by his three daughters, Joanna Brockwell (Marc), Barbara McCormack (John), and Jennifer Anderson (Brian); seven grandchildren, Lindsay Brockwell (Kristine), Marc Brockwell Jr. (Alyssa), Laci Brockwell (Dustyn), Maci Casey (Cory), Damien Moretz (Stephanie), Jonathan Moretz, and Dylan McCormack; two great grandchildren, Bryson Casey and Elijah Casey; stepdaughters, Peggy Simon (Mark), Anita Graham (David), Robin Kegley (Jim); stepson, Frank Moneymaker Jr. (Rikki); brother, Barney Winfield; sister, Connie Gilliam; nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and very dear friend, Terri "Cricket" Wilkerson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 235 Franklin Street, Petersburg, Virginia 23805, on June 10, 2023 from 2pm to 5pm in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice in memory of James Winfield.

Private interment will be held at Southlawn Memorial Park.
