James Wesley Yancey, Jr. (Jimmy), 69, son of James Wesley, Sr. and Rosa Lee Yancey, passed away, at his home in Chester, on Saturday, June 15, 2024. He graduated from Hopewell High School, class of 1973. He worked for Builders Supply in Hopewell for 41 years, most recently had been with 84 Lumber for 12 years.
He enjoyed going to car shows and races, anything to do with older cars. He was a proud owner of a Plymouth Roadrunner, which he would take to Hardee's every Saturday and participated in several car shows. He had many car club medals and car show awards. He was dedicated to his family, he was a sweet, caring, and loving man. He loved just spending time together, especially birthday parties, and any time there was something to celebrate. His smile said it all. He loved the pool, well, the joy on his face as he saw the kids having so much fun. He had the biggest heart, he was there for every event for everyone every time, or whenever anyone needed anything. The only thing he was not a fan of was change, he liked his routine and hated change.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Shirley Elaine Yancey; father, James Yancey, Sr.; and his mother, Rosa Lee Yancey. He is survived by his son, James Wesley III and wife, Danielle; daughter, Laura Yancey Alley and Bruce Popp; grandchildren, Cody and Brooke; brother, Robert Yancey and wife, Ann Yancey; sister, Janet Yancey; along with many other family members and friends.
A funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 6 PM, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service, at 5 PM.
