Jan Hess Harpole

Jan Hess Harpole, 73, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022 at his home. Born in Clinton, KY, he was the son of the late Tony Hess Harpole and Margaret Costello Harpole. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Gary.
Jan Harpole was a proud Veteran of the U. S. Army and served a long and distinguished career of 32 years, retiring with the rank of Colonel. Jan commanded at the company, battalion, and brigade level, was the commander of MTMC Europe and served in the first Gulf War. He was recently working at the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) in Richmond as the Supervisory Operations Research Analyst for the Analytics Center of Excellence and Director of the Center for Lessons Learned.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Florence; children, Tevya (Justin), Thane (Eany), and Theron (Amanda); grandchildren, Coralie, Ailin, Aden, Artemis, and Arya; and brother, Mark (Marcia).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment will take place at a later date with full military honors at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield Foundation, fairfieldfoundation.org, or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
