Yandle, Jane Hess, 93, of Colonial Heights, Virginia departed this life on Friday, May 5, 2017. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia, the only daughter of William Charles and Beulah Walker Hess. She was predeceased by her parents and by her siblings, William Albert Hess and James Hess. Jane graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk and married the love of her life, Clyde T. Yandle, in 1946. They were married for 67 years before she was widowed in 2013, residing with her husband in Oakland, California, Petersburg, Virginia and Prince George, Virginia.
Jane was the proud mother of two sons: Stephen Thomas Yandle (Martha Anne) and David Kent Yandle (Barbara) who survive her. Also surviving are her two grandsons: David Wesley Yandle (Allison) and Brandon Colin Yandle (Jessica); and also two great-grandchildren: Harper Kent Yandle and Lyla Jane Yandle.
Along with her duties of raising a family, Jane served during her career as the secretary of Trinity United Methodist Church in Petersburg and as executive assistant to the Plant Manager of American Distillery in Colonial Heights. She also served as the Treasurer of the city of Petersburg from 1987 to 1993, the first woman to ever serve in that capacity in Petersburg. Her civic associations included the Virginia Treasurers’ Association, the Petersburg/Colonial Heights Business and Professional Women’s Association, the Petersburg Garden Club, and the Country Club of Petersburg.
A Celebration of Life Service for Jane will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 215 South Sycamore Street, Petersburg, Virginia 23803. The Reverend Dr. Gerald Miller will preside. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with the service to begin at 11:00 AM. A reception sponsored by the church will follow the service. Burial will be private.
