Janet Royer Caldwell

September 6, 1945 — April 23, 2020

Janet R. Caldwell (Royer), 74, loving wife, mother, grandmother and adored friend entered the kingdom of Heaven April 21, 2020. She was born September 6, 1945 in Dubois, PA to Eugene D. and Zelda P. Royer, and was raised along with her sisters Joanne and Jill and the late Jack Royer in DuBois. She was married to Gary S. Caldwell of Falls Creek, PA and was mother to two sons, Jay H. Caldwell (Danelle) and Jeffrey J. Caldwell.
Janet was a lifelong learner and educator, having retired after nearly four decades of teaching in Pennsylvania and in her adopted hometown of Skaneateles, NY, where she taught generations of beloved students and was one of the great mothers of E. Austin Street. She helped raise more than 30 kids who called that block home, and took care of her close Skaneateles friends. Everyone was family to her, and she was quick to reach out and adopt any newcomer to the village in her 35 years there, or to assist any one of the kids walking home from school who was crying, or skinned a knee, or needed some help. She attended hundreds of sporting events, school plays, concerts and events to cheer on her sons and students.
Her infectious laugh, lasting efforts to hug everyone she met in that small town, and her ever-present efforts to talk to every person she encountered, left an indelible impression on the entire community.
In recent years, she lived her life devoted to her 7 grandchildren: Samuel, Sara, Graham, Annabelle, Cooper, Sam and Charlotte. She and Gary split time between Skaneateles, Chester, VA and Shelby Township, MI so they could spend time with their beloved sons, grandkids and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Zelda Royer, younger brother Jack Royer, in-laws Sara Margaret and John R. Caldwell, and recently by daughter-in-law Amie Caldwell.
She will be buried in Beechwoods Cemetery in Falls Creek, PA. No services will be held at this time, but a celebration of life will be planned in Skaneateles in the summer of 2020.
