Janet Mayhew Casey

Janet Mayhew Casey, 54, of Chesterfield, VA by way of Dinwiddie, VA left her earthly body on Sunday, January 17, 2016. She grew up creating havoc in Dinwiddie with Vivian, Lanny, and Phillip along with her friends that lived down the lane. Apparently there wasn’t much else to do down Squirrel Level except cause Charlie and Ella headaches. She went on to have Ella, James Jr., and Jennifer and did her best to make sure they grew into productive citizens. She lead them by example through working hard at KFC for several years, then Zipmart for over 10 years where she met and provided smiles to so many citizens in Petersburg; this is also where she met her significant other, Bobby. Following that, she found her way to Sam’s Club bakery as a cake decorator. This is where Little Michael started calling her Grandma Cookie, then JJ, Taylyn, Ryan, and Cody followed suit. This could be because every time they would visit she would ask the kids “Do you want a cookie?”. She also lovingly expanded her family by accepting Michael and John as sons-in-law. She was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and fought the good fight for three years so that she could spend a little more time with her family and friends. While her time with the world was short, she has had a lasting impact on everyone she came in contact with from family, friends, co-workers, to the general public she served at all of her jobs. Please join the family for a celebration of life on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Old Skygusta Tavern (3035 South Crater Rd. in Petersburg), rather than a memorial service as she was not a somber person. Make sure to wear purple in her memory as it was her favorite color. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Patient Access Network Foundation.
