Mrs. Janet Reid Thomson Cohen, 83, of Chesterfield, Virginia departed this life on Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Janet will join her Mother, Father and Brother James for a grand reunion in Heaven. Janet was born in Cohasset, Massachusetts, the daughter of, James Thomson Sr. and Margaret Tyne Eager Thomson. A graduate of Tufts University - Occupational Therapy Program, and life-long member of AOTA – The American Occupational Therapy Association, Janet’s life was eternally focused on helping others. Her passion for helping others and sense of adventure led her to Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany where she was Director of Special Service Facilities at Spangdahlem and Landstuhl Air Force Bases. She would eventually meet her husband Howard there. Together they travelled Europe and married in Basel, Switzerland in 1965. Their son, Scott David was born in Munich, Germany in 1970. They returned to the United States in 1974 and permanently set roots in Chesterfield County, Virginia. Janet was deeply spiritual and a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Chester, Virginia, where her irresistible personality was treasured by everyone. Left to cherish her memory are husband, Howard Paul Cohen of Chesterfield, Virginia; son, Scott David Cohen; daughter-in-law, Virginia “Ginny” Zapar Cohen; granddaughter, Eliza Mackenzie Cohen; grandson, Quinn Reid Cohen of Virginia Beach, Virginia; brother, Alan Thomson of Norwell, Massachusetts; sister, Cynthia LaLiberte of Hingham, Massachusetts; nieces, Laura Thomson, Karen Stockwell, Heather Babineau, and Allyson McCabe; and nephews, Whitten Stockwell and Jeff Stockwell. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 12201 Richmond Street, Chester, Virginia 23831. The family will receive friends and family immediately after the service in the Parrish Hall.
