Janet Ross Richard, 84, wife of Dr. Louis E. Richard of Petersburg, passed away at home on August 3rd, 2007 after a prolonged illness. Born February 19, 1923 in Englewood, New Jersey, she was the daughter of Julian Kneeland Ross and Josephine Beatrice Houghtaling. She spent her childhood in Ridgewood, New Jersey and Albion, New York. She completed the Columbia University School of Occupational Therapy program in1945 and worked in the Public Health Service in New York, Maryland and New Mexico.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Petersburg and the Richmond Weaver's Guild. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a passionate weaver of intricate design. She is survived by her husband of fifty six years, her daughter, Michele and husband Charlie Bustamante of Durham, NC, her son Gregory K. Richard, his wife Rose and daughter Andrea, of Victoria, TX, her son Dr. Stephen R. Richard, his wife Agnes Frazier Richard and their sons Michael, Marshall, and Ross of Richmond, and her sons Timothy H. Richard and Geoffrey T. Richard of Petersburg. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 6th, 2007 at 11 am in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, adjacent to Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg. The family will receive friends at the residence on Sunday, August 5th from 2 pm until 5 pm, and for a celebration following the service on Monday.
