Janis Kirkland Stevens

Janis Kirkland Stevens, 61, of Matoaca, won her battle with this life and walked into eternity on Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Born in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Mildred Hess Kirkland. Janis retired after 36 years of civil service at Fort Lee. At the time of her retirement, she was a budget analyst. She was a member of Matoaca Christian Fellowship since 1995. A loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Janis is survived by her husband, David M. Stevens; sons, Robbie Wade and wife, Mindy of Midlothian, Matthew Stevens of Jacksonville, FL, and William Stevens of Matoaca; grandchildren, Lexie, Kaylee, David Lee, and Caden; sisters, Carolyn Stables of Matoaca and Donna Chavis and husband, Jerry of Laurinburg, NC. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 23rd at Matoaca Christian Fellowship with Pastor Ryan Atchison officiating. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Matoaca Christian Fellowship. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Matoaca Christian Fellowship, 7700 River Road, S.
