Jean Valentine Koren

Jean Valentine Koren, 83, of Chester, Virginia, passed away on July 8, 2023. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Clara Valentine; her three sisters, Helen, Shirley, and May; and her nieces, Lori Cook and Helen "Susie" Miles. Jean has served as the secretary of Nazareth Lutheran Church, where she also sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed walking with friends and helping her family. She will be remembered by her family as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. Jean is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, William Paul Koren; two daughters, Kara Canada (Clarke) and Tracy Koren; two granddaughters, Lindsey Thompson (Michael) and Lauren Engels; four great-grandsons, William Engels, Andrew, Everett, and Owen Thompson; nieces and nephews, Glen and Michael Miles, David Jackson, Lisa and Nicki Hilton, David Koren, Elysia Edmundson, Merri Branchaurd, and Andrea and Abby Englert. She is also survived by many great-nephews and nieces. We mention them because she often was recognized as a surrogate grandmother because she survived her sisters, in some instances, for many years.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 16, 2023, from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM, at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home - Chester Chapel, 3050 W. Hundred Road, Chester. A funeral service will take place on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, 1711 Grant Street, Hopewell. Interment will immediately follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park. Flowers are welcome, but memorial contributions in Jean's name may be made to Nazareth Lutheran Church.
