Jean Vofrei Laity of Petersburg died on September 7, 2009, at the age of 82. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Walter John and Lillian Freed Vofrei. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Petersburg, for nearly 55 years. She was preceded in death by her son, John Craig Laity, Jr.; her brother, Walter John Vofrei, Jr.; and her husband of 60 years, John Craig Laity. She is survived by her daughters Linda Laity Hite of Williamsburg, VA, and Pamela Laity-Schabacker and husband Michael of Williams, AZ; her granddaughter Kimberly Reubush of Dumfries, VA; and her grandson D. Chandler Reubush, wife Emily and great-granddaughter Cricket of Danville, VA. The family will receive friends at 1 PM on Friday, September 11, 2009, at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 1769 S. Sycamore Street, Petersburg, followed by the funeral service at 2 PM. Burial will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the memorial fund of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer or to Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
