Jean Loving Root, 80, of Chesterfield, VA passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018. Born in Chesterfield, she was the daughter of the late Herndon Dangerfield and Mildred Hargrave Loving; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Hamilton Wayne Root, Sr. Jean passed of natural causes after having been surrounded by loved ones and family. She was a graduate of Thomas Dale High School class of 56’. Jean enjoyed a very active life always surrounding herself with friends and family. She was an avid antique collector and operated the much loved “The Farmhouse” restaurant when it first opened. Jean also was also a long time employee of DLA (preciously known as DGSC). She is survived by her children, Hamilton Wayne Root, Jr. (Konnie), Victoria Layne Dryer (Michael), Pamela H. Helberg and Joseph “Joey” H. Hanchey III; grandchildren, Ryan Hamilton Root, Kelly Ellen Root, Jordan Michele Tocheny (Chaz), Devon Thomas Dryer, Peyton Elizabeth Dryer, Herman Wesley Helberg and Crystal Maury Helberg; great-grandchild, Nikolai Andrew Tocheny; former husband, Joseph “Joe” H. Hanchey, Jr.; .and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with Mr. Tommy Bucher, officiating. Interment will follow in Centralia Cemetery, Chesterfield, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Mrs. Root.
