Jean Gerard Smith began her eternal life Friday, June 19, 2009. Her spirit lives on with her many friends and family members whose lives she touched in so many ways. She was born in Durham, NC, to Ellen Moses and Kenneth Charles (Gerry) Gerard. She grew up in Durham and graduated from Durham High School and later Duke University. Jean was a member of the Petersburg community for 49 years as an active member of Christ & Grace Episcopal Church, Petersburg and Raleigh Parish Garden Clubs and the â??THE BRIDGE CLUBâ?. Known for â??helping so many peopleâ?, through her service as a social worker at the Petersburg Health Department and Supervisor of the Kiwanis Crippled Childrenâ??s Clinic, as well as other community outreach efforts. She is survived by her daughter Dulaney Collins; sons, Kenneth Gerard Smith and wife Julie, and Landon Carter Smith, Jr.; grand-daughters, Nicole, Jessie, Jennifer and Piper; grandsons, Raymond, Joshua and Kenneth Charles (KC); cousins, Linda Yeatts Brown, husband Maximilian and Carol Pipinger Kirk and husband, Kenneth as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family and Samthedog. A celebration of life and homecoming memorial service will be held at Christ & Grace Episcopal Church, Petersburg, Sunday, July 5th at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Christ & Grace Episcopal Church Community Outreach Fund. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T.
