Jean Maddra Vaughan has missed daddy for 33 years and on September 21, 2014 she joined him in heaven. Jean was born February 12, 1921 onand until the age of 81 she lived in the house in which she was born in Ettrick, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband Ryland Louis Vaughan; parents,Allie Vester Maddra, Sr. and Beula Hawkins Maddra; and brother Allie Jr. and his wife and dear friend, Virginia. Jean is survived by one daughter Jan Vaughan Southall and her husband Les. Their daughters Lesley Bradley (Brian) and Katherine Ward and great granddaughters Hannah and Gretchen Bradley all fondly refer to her as Granny Jan as did many other friends and family members. She will also be missed and fondly remembered by nieces Jenny, Annette (John) and Linda and her special husband Charlie. Nephew, Allie III (Buck) and Jackie will also miss her. Granny Jan was a devoted wife, mother and a great friend to many with several friendships lasting a lifetime. She spent 3 years living in the independent living section of Waltonwood in Cary and developed friendships there that were new but still very special. The family is very appreciative of the staff and those friendships. Jean and her family were also blessed with knowing and being cared for by Transitions Life Care formerly Hospice of Wake County. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home.
