Her nursing career was an eclectic one and included public health nursing in the Boston area of Mass, pediatric nursing at UVA in Charlottesville, medical nursing at SRMC in Petersburg, and psychiatric nursing at Poplar Springs Hospital in Petersburg. On special occasions she also did private duty nursing at the home of friends and relatives who needed quality nursing care. Until shortly before her fatal illness, she fulfilled nursing duties at the Interfaith Adult Day Care Center in Petersburg. For her outstanding work there she received Volunteer of the Year Award from Crater Area Agency for the Aging. Jeannieâ??s prime consideration in life was caring for her family and she lovingly and firmly nurtured five children and a husband. She rarely missed an athletic event or horse show and could argue with the best of umpires. Later in life her grandchildren also became the recipients of her love and devotion. She was a cook par excellence and enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and very proud of her Irish Catholic heritage. She faced death as she embraced life, with faith and courage. â??To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.â?
