Jennie “Jean” Washington Adams, 87, of Hopewell, VA, arrived into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Billy Eugene Adams; parents, Luther Washington and Rubye Moore Washington; stepmother, Mildred Washington; sister, Iris Fortenberry; and a brother, Larry Washington. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth Adams, Jeffrey Adams and wife, Kim, Carey Adams and wife, Melissa, and Gregory Adams; grandchildren, Caryn Livingston and husband, Kyle, Carly Adams, Calyn Adams, Trevor Adams, Garrison Adams, Remington Adams, and Storm Adams; brother, Lewis Washington and wife, Jackie; sister, Brenda Butler and husband, Charles. Jean was born in Worthville, GA on October 20, 1929. After graduating high school, she took a job in the special order department of Sears in Atlanta, where she met and married Bill. Bill and Jean moved to Hopewell, VA in 1954. Mrs. Adams was a member of First Baptist Church where she dedicated herself to children’s church because of her love of sharing Jesus with children. She was a terrific cook and seamstress. Jean loved visiting people in the hospitals and nursing homes. Most of all, she was a great mother, passing along her deep faith in Jesus to her sons, and teaching them life lessons that only a great mother could teach. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at First Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 401 N. 2nd Ave., Hopewell, VA 23860. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2017 at Bermuda Memorial Park, 1901 Bermuda Hundred Road, Chester, VA 23831.
