Jerry Dean Bartlett

Jerry Dean Bartlett, 82, of Hopewell passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020. Born September 25, 1938 in Valley Head, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Omar Walter and Myrtle Mae Bartlett. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dessel and Walter. He served 4 years in the Air Force, being stationed at Fort Lee. This brought him to Hopewell where he then settled, started a family, and resided for the remainder of his life. A longtime member of the Hopewell Optimist Club, Jerry was a former President and Treasurer, and also served as Lieutenant Governor for the district. He particularly enjoyed his time spent working on the Optimist Christmas Tree lot. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends on the beaches of Cape Hatteras. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 62 years, Connie Darlene Bartlett; sons, Jeffrey Dean Bartlett and wife, Denise, Gregory Alan Bartlett and wife, Crystal; three grandchildren, Erin Vaughan and husband, Jacob, Jacob Bartlett, Matthew Bartlett; one great-grandson, Emory Vaughan; four siblings, Ronald Bartlett and wife, Bobbi, Wanda Gear, Mildred Self, Sheila Rajnic and husband, Paul; and numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members and many, many friends. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2021 in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens.
