Roebuck, Jessie Wynn Morgan passed away on April 29, 2016. Daughter of Edward Lee Morgan and Nancy Thorne Morgan, she was born on October 15, 1932, in Newton, Mississippi. After receiving a full academic scholarship, she graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1954 with a degree in Education. In addition, at age eighteen she was crowned as Miss Mississippi 1951 and was selected as a finalist in the Miss America Pageant. She wed the love of her life, Dr. Jerome Barland Roebuck, on December 16, 1953 and remained happily married for sixty-two years. She was a talented dancer, teaching dance and aerobics in a private school in New Orleans while her husband completed medical school and his residency. She enjoyed three years as an Air Force wife and loved her stay in Fairbanks, Alaska, while Jerry was assigned to the hospital at Ladd Air Force Base. On moving to Petersburg in 1963, she became a model homemaker in raising and supporting her four children. She was a sports enthusiast and a devoted fan of UVA athletics, since all four children and three grandchildren graduated there. A basketball player in high school, she maintained a love of the sport her entire life. She was also an avid tennis player and accomplished pianist. Playing cards with her bridge club was a treasured activity along with her book study club. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jerome Roebuck, daughters, Sharon Roebuck Kendall and Robin Roebuck Trpis and her husband, Martin Trpis, sons, Mark Morgan Roebuck and his wife, Julie Henshaw Roebuck, and Steven Todd Roebuck. There are seven grandchildren: Jessica Faith Roebuck, Stephen Barland Kendall, Elizabeth Barland Vanderpool, Jack Morgan Roebuck, Natalie Morgan Kendall, Anna Thorne Trpis and Holden Jerome Roebuck. A Memorial Service will be held at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 4:00 p.m., with a reception to follow. For over 30 years she loved spending time at the family’s second home in Deltaville, Virginia.
