Wakefield, Virginia
John Andrew ?Jimmy? Holt, JR, age 82, a resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday afternoon July 5, 2005. Jimmy was born on Dec. 8, 1922 in Corinth, VA (Southampton County), the son of the late John A. and Clara A. Holt.
Jimmy served proudly with the U. S. Army in the 328th Infantry, Company F, during World War II where he earned the Bronze Star for heroic duty.
He was a master carpenter and there are few houses in Wakefield that do not bear proof of his excellent work. Deciding to give up his own business, he went to work at Fort Lee, Virginia. Upon his retirement from civil service, in 1985, he continued with his hobby of woodworking, creating many beautiful pieces cherished by those lucky enough to receive them.
He was a member of the Wakefield Masonic Lodge #198, AF&AM, and the Wakefield United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Rose Bailey Holt, to whom he was devoted. He is also survived by two daughters, Deane Holt Moore and husband, Billy, of Ivor, and Tammie Holt Cahoon and husband, Tom, of Wakefield; two grandsons, Earl H. Edwards, JR and wife, Kristi, and David Andrew ?Andy? Edwards, and wife, Theresa, all of Smithfield; three granddaughters, Heather Lynn Holt, Shannon Marie Holt, and Ruth Elizabeth Koerber; one great-grandson, Dylan Christopher Edwards, and one great-granddaughter, Holt Avery Edwards; a sister, Linda Holt Griffin and a brother, Earl Winston Holt, both of Wakefield; many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Predeceased by a son, John Andrew ?Johnny? Holt, III.
Jimmy will be greatly missed by all.
