Joan Primeaux

d. May 5, 2011

Joan Primeaux, 71, of Ponca City, OK, joined her heavenly father on Thursday evening May 5, 2011, at her home after a short battle with cancer. She was born on February 19, 1940 in Colonial Heights, VA, to John Marshall Curry and Alice Viola Wells. Joan grew up in the Colonial Heights and Petersburg, VA area, graduating from Petersburg High School. While working at a furniture store she met her husband Ray Primeaux. They were married September 19th, 1958 and were together until his death on May 18, 1984. Joan worked as a bookkeeper and a bank teller until she and her family moved to Durham, NC in 1971. While living in Durham, she was a homemaker as well as the bookkeeper for Rayâ??s business, Empire Draperies. After Rayâ??s death in 1984, Joan returned to banking as a teller, and then worked for Georgia Pacific. In 1998, Georgia Pacific closed her plant and Joan moved to Ponca City, Ok to be with her son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. At the time of her death, she was employed at Smith Home Furnishing as their Financial Secretary. Joan was well known for her organization skills and being a perfectionist. She thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated her co-workers. Joanâ??s greatest joy was her family, and more especially, her two grandchildren. Whatever activities they were in, if she was not able to attend, she wanted some memento to save the occasion. She always had a sparkle in her eye whether she was watching Cody wrestle or Rebecca cheer. Win or lose, they could do no wrong in her eyes. She is survived by her son, Chris Primeaux, and his wife Robyn and grandchildren, Cody and Rebecca Primeaux, all of Ponca City, OK. Also surviving are three brothers, Robert Curry, Ronald Curry and wife Judy, Richard Curry and wife Pat all of Colonial Heights, VA, and one sister, Shirley Williams of Ford, VA., as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother James Marshall Curry. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 12th, at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester, VA. Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 N. Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
