On April 28, 2023, our beautiful daughter, sister, aunt, and friend ascended to heaven, leaving our hearts broken. Our beloved Joana Mata Suarez died in Richmond, VA, of sudden cardiac arrest after recovering from back surgery. She was 32 years old.
Joana is survived by her parents, Martin Mata Solis and Cecilia Suarez; her siblings, Martin, Magali, Sandra, Brenda, and Eric. Joana was not married, nor had children of her own, due to her ongoing health issues.
Joana was born on September 3, 1990, in Richmond, Virginia. She was unfortunately diagnosed with kidney failure at the tender age of three - which caused many unique challenges for her as she was growing up and as an adult. She had many surgeries and procedures throughout her life.
Joana was brave though it all. She fought many battles and endured so much pain due to her illnesses. But through it all, Joana found joy with those around her, especially her nieces and nephews who she loved very much. She was a very organized, creative individual; everything had its place. A naturally talented artist. Joana was intelligent and brave. She loved to travel whenever her health permitted. Today, we lay her to rest on her final journey home to heaven.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, May 5, 2023, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. and interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W. Hundred Road, Chester, VA.
