Joel Brown Smith Sr.

Joel Brown Smith, Sr., 77, of Chesterfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Born in Johnston County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Loomis Melvin Smith and Elizabeth Gallion Peden. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Loomis Emory Smith; and sister, Lenora Elizabeth Crotts. Mr. Smith was a hardworking man who loved the Lord and his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley Jones Smith; daughter, Elizabeth Harrison and her husband, Chris; two sons, Emory Smith and Joel Smith, Jr.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and numerous other extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 pm on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
